Thank you for reminding me that being openly trans is a brave act, even if I only took steps to take action on it at 50 for fear. So many fears. But I had to do it publicly keep a nice job, and continue my recreational poker tournaments. But I am kind of glad I did. I know I have caused some cis gender folk to rethink their world view. At least one, who told several people she would never accept me as a man. No loss, she didn’t like me anyway; I felt the same about her. Two years later she apologized. She liked me now, said I seemed more ‘right’ as a man. Big change for a ‘Karen.’ I know it must have created some hard dissonance that she had to work thru. I learned that I could be brave and fearful at the same time. Had to work thru my own dissonance.
